Evaluation: Question 3
QUESTION 3
Our chosen genre is dystopian sci-fi and our target audience is predominantly teenagers aged 16 upwards due to the fact that males are more suited to violence and females you could say that they are obsessed with the romantic story plot. With this in mind we tried to interview and film the reactions from a wide range of people even though some didn't match our target audience criteria. This is okay as if they are not exactly in the target market it is a good insight of how we could adapt our trailer to get a wider range of people to like and enjoy the trailer.
We asked people after watching the trailer, 'what genre do you think it is' some participants suggested the genre was action but the majority stated that the genre was a sci-fi blockbuster. Most young people we feel are not as aware of the dystopian genre as we once thought, even though they like the genre they are unaware to identify the genre. Moreover through the display of key sci-fi conventions, the presentation of a CGI, explosions, abnormal reality and desaturated colour palate. These all suggest a very conventional sci-fi film but the conventional part was the plot which we feel was too unconventional as some feedback related to they not understanding the plot, which in itself is not bad as the trailer is meant to give you the plot but give you a glimpse of the plot making you want more. Therefore for this reason we feel that the trailer was good as the feedback suggested that they would go watch the film.
From the Audience Feedback session we carried out we were able to infer that various participants when asked 'what could be changed about the trailer' stated that the sound was one of the main aspects that needed improvement, they felt that in some parts of the trailer they could barely hear the dialogue, whereas sometimes the music was too loud particularly in the monologue sequence. Other participants stated that the effects were good but in the later stage of the trailer in the montage that it needed to be it bit faster cuts and edits to make the audience more focused into the montage. Other than that they feel that the trailer was good and enjoyed it.
