Front Cover Magazine Analysis

Empire- magazine published monthly and is one of Britain’s biggest selling film magazines.
Masthead- The tittle located along the top of the magazine with will smiths head in the middle which would instantly be spotted as it is a large image alongside red bold text. Empire is a very known film magazine so its layout and the conventional tittle font can notice it even though it is not all seen. It is important for the consumers to see the picture on the front cover of the magazine to attract to the audience to purchase the magazine.
Main image -He is looking straight at the audience with a serious look on his face which could suggest a dramatic plot. Will smith is holding a gun which represents action and violence which is appealing to an audience aged 15-30. It also shows that he is strong and a brave character. He is wearing all black clothes which tell us that he is being a serious man. The idea that he is stood alone in the main image tells the audience that he is alone in the abandoned city in the film.
The background of the magazine seems faded with and layered with fog which emphasises the mystery of the film and does not give too much away which helps attract a wider audience to purchase the magazine.
The headline – The tittle of the film is written across the centre of the magazine and the world legend is shown much bolder than the rest of the tittle. This gives the audience clues of what the film could be about and tells them that will smith could be the main character that is the legend. The grey background looks gloomy yet looks very professional which also helps the bold font in white stand out as it contrasts with the background. Underneath the headline there is a subheading which shows will smiths name in bold standing out in between the other lines, being a popular a list actor.
Conventions -Above the tittle there is a caption that relates to the film genre with powerful words used such as best winter preview ever. This tells the audience immediately when the film will be releasing and also allows the consumers to want to read and find out more about the film. Furthermore there is also a barcode, a price and date. These are all important as they make the magazine look more official and people know when the magazine has been issued.
Cover lines -In addition there are also other films being advertised on the front cover in small images around the main image of will smith. This helps the magazine to attract audiences that like different genres. There is red and white subheadings naming other films and information about them which lets a variety of audience know additional information.

The mast head is written in in a font where no two letters are the same.  The letter M has a curve and is bold and black with a white outline which contrasts against the other two letters. The Y and the M are transparent in red with white outlines. The masthead is unique and would appeal more to the younger demographic as it is not cliché and boring.
The image featured on the front cover shows all the characters running which connotes a chaotic and adventurous scene. The image is taken form a high angle which makes the characters look like they are going to run towards the audience and has a white glow behind them which represents the unknown dangers with in the film.
Furthermore the cover line is written on both sides of the page and is written in red and white bold writing. This colour scheme contrasts well with the dark mysterious background and this makes the front cover more eyes catching, wanting the consumers to purchase the magazine.
The headline is written in white text and is very informal showing that they are aimed more at teenagers which engage more in casual language. Yet it is kept very simple which shows the magazines sophistication in making it look professional.

The magazine is mostly aimed at the younger demographic as it contents are focused more on fun and younger activities. It demonstrates the fun and quirky side of the magazine as well as looking professional. The unique selling point would be the tittle of the magazine as well as the image as the image consists of more than one person it shows that there is a lot of adventure during the film.
