Media Social Marketing - I Am Legend
I Am Legend, a film released on 14th December 2007, does not have a lot of social media marketing, which may be because of how the film was released in a year where there wasn’t a lot of social media. With this in mind, the only use of social media which was found was on Facebook, a worldwide use of social media in which many people are able to connect with different things that they are interested in as well as connecting with people/ TV/ Bands or in this case film.
As seen on this screenshot of the Facebook page, it is the official page, therefore it has full authority to post any connection to the film, this being the main actor playing the main protagonist (Will Smith). There is information about the film on the side of the Facebook page, as well as photos and how many people have liked the page, this being over 8 million.
As this film uses an A-list actor, Will Smith, there would be a lot more followers which may up the amount of people who have liked the Facebook page, which therefore gives more publicity to not only to the actor and the other films they starred in, but also to this specific film, as other people who maybe interested in this genre may find out about him and it would give more publicity to the actor as a whole.

Questionaire
From the answers provided by the 16 people asked, 11 of them were between the ages of 16 and 18 whereas the rest were of the age of 19+ or below 12. The majority of the distribution is in the age group of 16-18, this might affect the answers because typically ages can have very different tastes in films such as older people may enjoy more of a classical drama whereas younger views may like more animation or comedy films.
Viewing the answers provided by the 17 people asked, 9 of them were female whereas the other 8 were male. The uneven distribution of the genders by one difference, so I feel as which this might not affect the answers because typically men and women have very different tastes in movies.
Looking at the answers provided by the 17 people asked, 11 of them stated they enjoy Dystopian Sci-Fi films whereas the other 6 were male. The uneven distribution of the interests this might affect the answers because typically people who dislike a genre tend to have negatives opinions and portrayals.
This set of data shows us that from the 12 people who answered this would agree that a film such as this the film trailer would need to be more visual, such as explosions and flashing visual effects. Taking into consideration of that 1 person from the 12, I still feel as such the trailer will need dialogue to make sense.
This set of data showed us the overall appeal of our unique selling point, therefore I feel as which we have a made a good decision and thus planned a good film plot.

Film Critics Review
I am
legend critic’s reviews:
NY
DAILY NEWS-
Will Smith does the honours in the
new, improved version, demonstrating his charismatic presence in a film that
rests almost solely on his shoulders. The only other humans we see, other than
his family in flashbacks of the evacuation, are a mother (Alice Braga) and her
son (Charlie Tahan) who've driven up from Maryland with god as their
co-pilot.
Smith has a tough task, making himself
interesting while relating only to his dog and to mannequins that his lonely,
paranoid mind takes for real friends. But he and those street magicians who
dressed Manhattan pull it off.
ROGEREBERT-
The opening scenes of "I Am Legend" have special
effects so good that they just about compensate for some later special effects
that are dicey
"I Am Legend" does contain memorable scenes, as
when the island is being evacuated, and when Neville says goodbye to his wife
and daughter (Salli Richardson and Willow Smith), and when he
confides in his dog (who is not computer-generated, most of the time, anyway).
And if it is true that mankind has 100 years to live before we destroy our
planet, it provides an enlightening vision of how Manhattan will look when it
lives on without us. The movie works well while it's running, although it
raises questions that later only mutate in our minds.
TELEGRAPH-
The first hour of the film, by far
its strongest, plays like a cross between an urban version of Robinson Crusoe
and One Man and His Dog. Smith, in a performance of stamina and subtlety that
recalls that of Tom Hanks in Cast Away (2000), wanders around an island that
has become a wilderness.
What started out so promisingly, a
companion piece of sorts to Children of Men, disappears in a frenzy of
screaming, head-banging, bloodiness - followed by totally unconvincing
redemption.
CONTENT TIME
It's
in the last half-hour that I
Am Legend imports new
elements that both propel the story to its explosive climax and just aren't as compelling
as the day-in-the-life story that preceded it. The notion the movie floats, of
an uninfected colony north of the city, is literally too Utopian to seem either
plausible or attractive to a hardened case like Neville. Smith has inhabited
the character so fully, and let moviegoers inside with him.

Website analysis

Instantly when we open up the website there is a video of the trailer that plays immediately. I think this is very eye-catching as it tries to intrigue the audience straight away. There is the main title of the film as well as will smith with a serious face shown in the background which is also striking as the audience can already indicate that it is an action movie. His face shows scares and there is a hint of light in the background which could suggest that the main character was involved in violence and sense of danger within the film the light in the background suggests hope.
At the centre of the page there is a subheading which leads to different sections of the film this allows the audience to find out more about the film once they have watched the trailer.

The theme throughout the website is shown as being very edgy yet is very simplistic which allows the audience to access more information easily and quickly.

Front Cover Magazine Analysis

Empire- magazine published monthly and is one of Britain’s
biggest selling film magazines.
Masthead- The tittle located along the top of the magazine
with will smiths head in the middle which would instantly be spotted as it is a
large image alongside red bold text. Empire is a very known film magazine so its
layout and the conventional tittle font can notice it even though it is not all
seen. It is important for the consumers to see the picture on the front cover
of the magazine to attract to the audience to purchase the magazine.
Main image -He is looking straight at the audience with a serious
look on his face which could suggest a dramatic plot. Will smith is holding a
gun which represents action and violence which is appealing to an audience aged
15-30. It also shows that he is strong and a brave character. He is wearing all
black clothes which tell us that he is being a serious man. The idea that he is
stood alone in the main image tells the audience that he is alone in the
abandoned city in the film.
The background of the magazine seems faded with and layered
with fog which emphasises the mystery of the film and does not give too much
away which helps attract a wider audience to purchase the magazine.
The headline – The tittle of the film is written across the
centre of the magazine and the world legend is shown much bolder than the rest
of the tittle. This gives the audience clues of what the film could be about
and tells them that will smith could be the main character that is the legend.
The grey background looks gloomy yet looks very professional which also helps
the bold font in white stand out as it contrasts with the background. Underneath
the headline there is a subheading which shows will smiths name in bold
standing out in between the other lines, being a popular a list actor.
Conventions -Above the tittle there is a caption that
relates to the film genre with powerful words used such as best winter preview
ever. This tells the audience immediately when the film will be releasing and
also allows the consumers to want to read and find out more about the film. Furthermore
there is also a barcode, a price and date. These are all important as they make
the magazine look more official and people know when the magazine has been
issued.
Cover lines -In addition there are also other films being
advertised on the front cover in small images around the main image of will
smith. This helps the magazine to attract audiences that like different genres.
There is red and white subheadings naming other films and information about
them which lets a variety of audience know additional information.

The mast head is written in in a font where no two letters
are the same. The letter M has a curve
and is bold and black with a white outline which contrasts against the other
two letters. The Y and the M are transparent in red with white outlines. The
masthead is unique and would appeal more to the younger demographic as it is
not cliché and boring.
The image featured on the front cover shows all the
characters running which connotes a chaotic and adventurous scene. The image is
taken form a high angle which makes the characters look like they are going to
run towards the audience and has a white glow behind them which represents the
unknown dangers with in the film.
Furthermore the cover line is written on both sides of the
page and is written in red and white bold writing. This colour scheme contrasts
well with the dark mysterious background and this makes the front cover more
eyes catching, wanting the consumers to purchase the magazine.
The headline is written in white text and is very informal
showing that they are aimed more at teenagers which engage more in casual
language. Yet it is kept very simple which shows the magazines sophistication
in making it look professional.
The magazine is mostly aimed at the younger demographic as
it contents are focused more on fun and younger activities. It demonstrates the
fun and quirky side of the magazine as well as looking professional. The unique
selling point would be the tittle of the magazine as well as the image as the
image consists of more than one person it shows that there is a lot of
adventure during the film.

FILM ANALYSIS
Children of Men stands out from typical dystopian sci-fi movies. Popular and commercially successful films such as Minority Report 2002, Blade runner 1982, portray dystopian worlds in a futuristic and escape from the characteristics of modern society. However Children of Men shows a more negative version of the 21st century modern society.
The unique approach allows the audience to relate to modern day society and therefore the audience can relate to the movie in a deeper way. The character that had played Julian in the movie (Julianne More) quoted ‘the audience doesn’t come to see you, they come to see they come to see themselves’. The directors unique techniques brings the audience along on the thrill ride with vivid images of the future world.
Through out the trailer there is slow pace editing, with a total of four cuts. It makes the audience feel as if they are part of the film and reels them into the action. Further more there was three static shots and on rails, each of the shots is hand held and close to the upcoming action.
The mis-en-scene in the film is very dark and dingy. The surroundings in the background are dark and gloomy for example in the café there is dirty and gritty in the inside. There are dark grey building and the scenery and had been dimmed, low level lighting which made the atmosphere sad and gloomy. There is a lot of general demolished environment filled with garbage and torn posters on the walls. The main character pours alcohol into a cup; this action is stereotypically shown in a lower class society.
The sound in the film is also mostly diegetic and has sounds of cars and commotion. With the upper class people and there fore leads to continuing the portrayal of the destroyed society. This draws the audience in because it makes the film, as it is nicely resemble the slow motion images in the background. Along side the diegetic sound there is also dialogue of the main character and the news reporter telling the narration of the plot to give the audience a clue of what is going on. When the explosion kicks out there is debris that continues to ass to the debris on the street and people on the streets are seen to be wounded. The explosion is followed by more energetic music causing more tension between the audience and film.
The film takes place in the year 2027 when Britain stands alone as the only functioning government in the world. Why does Cuarón choose Britain? Why not America, Germany, France or some other country? It appears that Britiain is not a coincidental choice by Cuarón. According to Slavoj Žižek, a renowned continental philosopher and critical theorist, one of the possible explanations is that Britain’s government has a de facto constitution and works, according to Žižek, based on “substance of tradition” and history. The picture on the left was drawn for the Times Higher Education Supplement about the "precedent, pageantry, mythology and phantasm that is Britain’s unwritten constitution”.
